This site is a set of articles. It has no accounts, no logins and no forms to submit — and, despite the way the home page is drawn, it never asks you to fill anything in.
The short version
We do not ask you for personal information, and we have no way for you to give us any through the site itself. We do not upload, receive, process or store your documents; every tool we write about runs on your own device or on the vendor's service, never through us. The only information that reaches us is anonymous, aggregated traffic measurement, described below.
Information we collect
Information you give us
Only what you choose to send by email. If you write to [email protected], we receive your message and your email address, and we keep it only for as long as it takes to answer you and to keep a record of any correction it prompted. We do not add correspondents to a mailing list and we do not sell or share contact details.
Information collected automatically
Like almost every website, the server that delivers these pages records standard technical information: the page requested, the date and time, the referring page, and general details about your browser and device. Analytics, where enabled, may also record an approximate location derived from your IP address, at city or region level. This is used to understand which articles are useful and how the site performs — never to identify you as an individual.
Cookies
A cookie is a small text file a site can store in your browser. This site uses them sparingly:
- A preference cookie. If you dismiss the cookie notice, we store a single flag so the notice does not reappear on every page. It contains no personal information.
- Analytics cookies. Where an analytics provider is enabled, it may set cookies to tell a returning visit from a new one and to measure how pages perform.
You can block or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings, and you can browse this site perfectly well with them switched off. The only thing you will notice is that the cookie notice may appear again on your next visit.
Analytics
We may use a third-party analytics service, such as Google Analytics, to produce aggregate statistics about traffic to fillandsigntools.com. Where it is enabled, that provider processes the technical information described above under its own privacy policy and may set its own cookies. We use it to see which articles people read and where the site is slow or broken. We do not use it to build advertising profiles, and we do not combine analytics data with anything else.
Affiliate links
Some links to the software we write about are affiliate links. When you follow one, the destination site — or an affiliate network acting for it — may set a cookie recording that you arrived from here, so that any resulting purchase is credited to us. That process happens on their side, under their privacy policy, and we receive only aggregate commission reporting. We are never told who you are or what you personally bought.
Other third parties
This site links out to vendors, documentation and other publications. Once you follow a link you are on someone else's site, governed by their privacy policy, not this one. We would encourage you to read the policy of any service you are about to upload a document to — that matters far more, for a form containing your personal details, than anything on a site like this one.
Data retention and security
We keep email correspondence only as long as it is useful for answering you or documenting a correction. Analytics data is retained according to the provider's own retention settings. The site is served over an encrypted connection. No transmission over the internet can be guaranteed completely secure, but there is very little here to secure: we hold no accounts, no payment details and no documents.
Your choices and rights
You can block cookies, use a browser's private mode, or use tracking protection or an ad blocker to prevent analytics from loading — none of this will stop the articles working. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted. Write to [email protected] and we will deal with it. In practice, for a visitor who has never emailed us, the answer is that we hold nothing that identifies you.
Children
This site is written for a general adult audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If the way the site handles information changes — a new analytics provider, for instance — we will update this page to describe it. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
